Accessible play close to home
Switch-adapted toys can allow a child to activate a toy using a switch that suits their movement and access needs. They can create opportunities to explore cause and effect, make choices, initiate play, take turns and play more independently.
The library provides a way to borrow and explore toys before families or teams consider longer-term options.
How it works
Referral and borrowing process
Submit a referral
Share information about the child’s current access method, interests and the type of play experience you are hoping to support.
Discuss a suitable match
Available toys and switches are considered alongside the child’s needs, with guidance about safe and supported use.
Borrow, play and return
Complete the borrowing agreement, arrange collection or delivery, and return the items at the end of the hire period.
Toy catalogue
Browse the collection
Explore the current switch-adapted toys, including photographs, toy numbers, features, switch inputs and hire prices. Availability can be discussed after a referral is received.
Timed or latched toys
A single activation starts the toy for a set time or until it is switched off.
Switch options
Switches may be explored according to the child’s reliable movement, position and access needs.
Borrowing policy
Read the borrowing policy for loan periods, fees, delivery, equipment setup, safe use, cleaning, and return arrangements.
Safety
Borrowed toys require active adult supervision and must be used according to the individual toy and switch instructions. Toy selection and switch access should be appropriate for the child and their environment.
Library toys use screw-secured AA batteries and do not use coin-cell batteries.
